these are all statues of jizō, a buddhist monk that is mostly seen as the guardian of the souls of children that died before their parents. these little napkins the statues wear are brought by the grieving parents. sometimes you’ll also see little toys or pinwheels, all dedicated to the children and to help jizō protect them. in some cases these things are put down at the statues by parents who thank him when their child has survived a serious illness.
